How would you know that the burns are severe? If the burns are swelling, blistering severely, or covering a large area of skin, waste no time getting the right treatment for the victims. They can be can be extremely dangerous, so burn treatment should be given as soon as possible.

If it really is a serious case, you must check the victim's breathing and pulse rate and call for emergency services quickly. One thing you have to remember is that never remove any clothing surrounding a severe burn, this is because the skin may have fused to the clothing. In addition, never apply cold water to severe burns as this can constitute shock. What you must do when it comes to burn treatment is to keep the wound clean and moist. While waiting for emergency help come, damp tepid compresses and clean dressings are good enough.

For the first degree or minor burn that usually happen in and around our homes; the first degree burn burn treatment can be carried out by you. This is due to the fact that the first degree burn only affects the first layer of the skin. When it happens, run the burn under cold water to stop the burning process. Don't forget to apply an antibiotic cream on the burn before you wrap loosely the burn in clean, dry cloth. The victim may need burn pain relief which you can get over-the-counter, at least it will help relieving the pain. However, if with the burn treatment the burn is still not healing after a few days, you must quickly get a medical consultation.

Other burn treatment that you can try:

You can use egg white by soaking or coating the affected area. Remember that while the egg white is still wet, you will not feel any pain from the burn. Reapplication is compulsory because when it dries up the pain may come back.

Sodium bicarbonate can be used for this purpose too, but it is only for a smaller burn. First mix one or two teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate with a very small amount of water, just enough to make it into a smooth paste (not runny), then apply the paste directly onto the burned area and leave it for some times. Amazingly the pain will disappear instantly.

Why not try using toothpaste. It is so easy, just put the toothpaste onto the burn and it will hurt no more and heal fast

Grab a tomato and cut it into thin slices and rub over the burned area with one slice of tomato. Rub gently. The acids from the tomato takes away the pain and the blister will not formed.

Precaution will go a long way to ensuring an effective burn treatment should it ever become necessary.
